Lurgan Town 0 Northend United 1 Shield Final Saturday 29th December 2018
Despite being very nervous, the young Northend team started brightly and were causing Lurgan Town all sorts of trouble. The Blues were moving the ball well and getting in behind the Lurgan defence. The opening goal came on the 6th minute when Mark Campbell lobbed a ball over the top of the Lurgan defence and Lewis McDonald ran through hitting a thunderous volley leaving the keeper no chance. Northend continued to cause problems and McDonald nearly grabbed a second as he shot just wide.
Lurgan started to come more into the game around the 18th minute, getting forward but the Northend defence of Campbell, McNeill and Bell stood firm and Dylan Glass, in the Northend goals, caught any long balls into the box. McDonald moved into the striking position and Robert Crooks into the attacking midfield position. Half time 0-1
Following a half time discussion, Northend prepared for Lurgan piling on the pressure in the second half. Northend worked really hard breaking down the Lurgan attacks and kept their shape very well, leaving Lurgan no choice but play the long ball. Charlie McIlhatton was having a fantastic game in the middle of the park, breaking up Lurgan play and spraying lovely balls into the attacking players as Northend went on the counter attacks. In a purple spell for Northend, Lewis McDonald came close again with another volley which went just over the bar and Calvin Termonia had a diving header cleared off the line from a McDonald corner.
Gary Kenny replaced McDonald in the striking role and caused Lurgan more trouble. Lurgan had a couple off hopeful shots from distance which didn't cause Glass any trouble in the Northend goals. Another good piece off link up play from Peter Finnegan and Gary Kenny saw Robert Crooks hitting the post.
The Lurgan keeper was kicking long, hoping for a mistake in the Northend defence, but Northend stood strong and not giving nothing away. Lurgan got a free-kick 20 yards out minutes before the end of the match and Dylan Glass made a great save from a thumbing strike. In a final flurry, Gary Kenny nearly forced another goal for Northend, as the defender and keeper panicked with the ball rolling just past the upright. Full time 0-1
Alex McDonald was a very proud manager with how the team conducted themselves and dealt with their nerves. Their work rate was second to none. They were so well organised and Lurgan could not break them down. This was a great team effort and the subs made a massive impact when they came on...

Warrenpoint Town 1 Northend United 2 Shield Semi-Final Saturday 8th December 2018
The thumping rain just as we started the game knocked the young Blues and took them 10 minutes to get into their usual fast flowing football. Northend were playing well and a goal was coming as they were getting in behind the Warrenpoint defence. Lewis Mc Donald won the ball in the middle of the park stepped past his marker and slide a lovely through ball between the 2 defenders Calvin Termonia ran onto it hitting it first time over the head of the keeper lovely goal. The second goal came as Charlie McIlhatton sent Clodagh Maguire out wide were she made good run and whipped a cross into the box defender cleared into his own net as they were under pressure from Kenny, Mc Donald and Termonia. Warrenpoint was awarded a couple off free kicks, but Dylan Glass made a good save only for Warrenpoint to follow into net but there were 3 players in an offside position and the goal was ruled out. Half time 0-2
Into the second half and with Robert Crooks introduced into the middle of the park and Mark Campbell on at right back, the Blues looked a solid team. Warrenpoint went 2 at the back pushing another player into midfield and changed to a big keeper. Warrenpoint came out all guns blazing and tried playing long balls but Billy McNeill, Matthew Bell and Mark Campbell were super in their dealing with every ball and Gary Kenny ran his socks off up front pressing the ball.
Northend were very attacking minded with the front 4 players pressing every ball and hitting good counter attacks forcing the Warrenpoint keeper to make 3 good saves. Warrenpoint earned a free kick at the edge of box, Dylan Glass got the hands to it but couldn't keep it out 2-1
Peter Finnegan came on at right wing and with fresh legs and defensive mind he was picking up the free man in midfield and nearly got himself a goal. Kenny off after a big shift with McDonald moving to striker and McIlhatton in middle. Northend now had the game under control and Oliwer Maka came on to see the game out comfortably. Full time 1-2

Northend United 3 Glendowan 0 Saturday 1st December 2018
Northend started on the front foot causing Glendowan all sorts of bother and getting shots away but the Glendowan keeper stayed strong. Clodagh Maguire crossed a lovely ball across the box and Gary Kenny got his shot away, however the defender made a good block, and Garron Donnelly followed it in at back post but the Glendowan keeper made a great save. Maguire and Donnelly made runs in behind the Glendowan defence but got blew for offside twice with only the keeper to beat. Glendowan saved by the whistle both times.
A goal was coming and as Donnelly played a lovely ball down the right side, Kenny picked up the ball ran at the defenders beating both of them and hitting a driving shot in the far corner 1 nil.
Dylan Glass had very little to do in nets as Robert Crooks and Charlie McIlhatton were dominant in midfield and the defence of Bell, McNeill and Maka cleaned up and played some cracking balls to the 3 front players. Half time 1-0
In the second half, Eddie Smyth started at right back and Northend played at a high tempo. the football was very fast with some cracking balls being played between the defenders. McIlhatton hit the crossbar with a lovely volley and Crooks hit the post couple minutes later. The Glendowan keeper made three fantastic saves from Kenny and Crooks. Kenny's second goal came from a Crooks corner.
Garron Donnelly was having a super game making great runs and whipping some lovely crosses into the box. Donnelly made a run again sending a peach of a ball into Kenny shrugged of the 2 defenders only keeper to beat but keeper went to ground and made a great save.
Kenny's third goal was the same as previous this time Kenny took it round the keeper and slotted into the net. Full time 3-0
Glendowan battled really hard but Northend were just too strong and playing lovely football. McNeill and Bell were very dominant in defence, cleaning up any loose balls, while McIlhatton and Crooks run the midfield. The front 3 off Donnelly, Kenny and Maguire were outstanding creating chance after chance.

Lurgan Town 0 Northend United 1 Saturday 17th November 2018
This game started at a very fast pace, with Northend slow to the ball for the first 5 minutes but then took over the possession of the ball winning their tackles and keeping the ball. The Blues were on top of their game moving the ball very fast and making great runs in behind Lurgan defence. The Mid-Ulster side's defence and keeper was very busy trying to keep the Blues out. Northend got a couple of shots away but the Lurgan keeper was hard to beat. In the 20th minute, Charlie McIlhatton played a lovely ball between the Lurgan defenders and Calvin Termonia ran in, picked up the ball and hit a driving shot which the keeper saved but made no mistake knocking in the rebound. Northend got their deserved goal with the front three of Greer, Termonia and Maguire making great runs in behind Lurgan defence while McDonald and McIlhatton continued to run the midfield and playing balls into great areas. Half time 0-1
Gary Kenny replaced Jackson Greer in the striker's role and Peter Finnegan replaced Mark Campbell. Northend started the half in the same way, controlling the game and stretching Lurgan all over the pitch but unfortunately could not score. Termonia went close again for Northend. Lurgan went chasing the game, going long with a number of passes but the Blues defence of McNeil, Bell and Finnegan dealt with every ball. Lurgan got a few free kicks but Northend stood strong hit on the counter with Gary Kenny making a driving run hitting a good shot but again keeper made a great save. Lurgan moved their big centre back into midfield to try get a hold off the game but McDonald and McIlhatton continued to win their battles. Dylan Glass, in the Blues nets, was seldom worked in the second half. Full time 0-1

Oxford Sunnyside 1 Northend United 1 Saturday 10th November 2018
With 3 regulars missing due to school transfer tests, this game was always going to be an uphill battle. Northend started off really well moving the ball really fast, creating a few chances but could not take the lead. Oxford never got any shots on target with Bell, McNeil and Campbell sitting solid in defence. Half time 0-0
Into the second half and Jackson Greer made 2 great runs, collecting the through ball and having shots but the keeper saved both. Gary Kenny moved into the striking role, causing the Oxford defence more problems. Matthew Bell moved to the right-wing position and continued to drive in behind the Oxford defence with his blistering pace. Indeed, Bell had a good chance to make it 1 nil but the Oxford defender got the block on it. Robert Crooks had a near miss with a great header from a Northend corner. Billy McNeil made it 1 nil after 42 minutes with a great curling strike which beat the Oxford keeper.
The referee made a mistake and gave Oxford a free kick from the edge of the box, which they duly dispatched to level the score on 48th minute. Northend kept driving forward for the last couple of minutes but couldn't get the winner unfortunately. Full time 1-1

Windmill Stars 2 Northend United 2 Northend win 3-1 on penalties Saturday 3rd November 2018
Northend started off this match well, holding off Windmill and hitting them on the counter attack. Northend were pressing the ball well and forced Windmill to play the long ball out of defence. Billy McNeil conceded a free kick away on 5th minute, which Windmill struck into the roof of the net. It was now game on and Northend were pushing for an equaliser and their keeper was forced to make a near post save from Calvin Termonia. The pressure finally paid off on 14th minute when Northend got their equaliser as Lewis McDonald struck a 1/2 volley from 30 yards and keeper made a great stop pushing it off the underside off the bar but Termonia made no mistake following it into the net. The Windmill keeper made another good save as Gary Kenny struck a low hard shot.
Windmill made it 2-1 as Billy McNeil and Peter Finnegan went for the same ball, The Windmill player struck on the volley with the wind catching it Dylan Glass only got the finger tips to it unfortunately couldn't stop it. Half time 2-1
Northend made a few changes with Mark Campbell coming on at right back, Oliwer Maka left back and Matthew Bell moving to centre back. Charlie McIlhatton came into midfield and Lewis McDonald moving into the striking position. Playing against a very strong wind, Northend were pressing for goals. Windmill were playing the long balls out trying to get their speedy striker in behind the Blues defence but Bell, Campbell and Maka was dealing with them and playing nice balls into are attacking players. Dylan Glass made a good save to keep Northend in the game. Crooks and McIlhatton were battling hard in midfield while the front 3 off Termonia, Maguire and McDonald were causing Windmill all types of problems. Windmill keeper went to kick the ball out but McDonald blocked it and ref gave a foul. The keeper tried to take a quick free kick and Termonia intercepted and scored leaving the score 2-2.
Northend were well on top and pushing for the winner. Northend nearly got the winner with a lovely piece off play as McDonald and Clodagh Maguire played a lovely one-two and the move ended up with Termonia heading the ball just over the bar.
And so to the dreaded penalties to decide this tie, with Northend coming out on top, with Bell, Termonia and McDonald seeing the Blues into the semi-final
